Althea Korea Bare Essentials Review on Acne-Prone Skin

Althea Bare Essentials Review

The Althea Korea Bare Essentials line is probably the simplest and the most effective Korean skincare routine ever.

You don't know how many times I've tried to do the 10-step Korean skincare routine and how many times I've failed to complete it. I always seem to forget one or two steps and I just really can't remember which product goes first and which ones to layer up. At about the fifth or sixth step, I just kind of give up...

Having to follow 10 different steps everyday was pretty overwhelming for me and I somehow felt that skincare doesn't have to be this difficult. So, I was very thankful when Althea Korea, our one-stop  online  shop  for  absolutely  everything  K-beauty, heard our qualms and created the Bare Essentials line.

They've really stripped down to the bare essentials with only three products...

Riding on today's minimalism movement and proving that less is definitely more, Althea's Bare Essentials line focuses on the fundamentals and drops all the non-essential steps to make it easier for us. These three skincare products give the same benefits as the infamous 10-step Korean skincare routine, but in a more basic, simpler, and practical routine which includes cleansing, toning, and moisturizing.

These new beauty hybrid products nourish the skin while leaving it looking bright, glowing, and beautiful. With clean, minimal, yet effective  formulas,  these straightforward products epitomize simple perfection and deliver maximum results with  minimum effort in our routines.

The Althea Korea Bare Essentials skincare line consists of three hypoallergenic products suitable for all skin types.

Althea Contour Cleanser Review Bare Essentials

The Contour Cleanser (150g)
Price: Php 300.00

Packed with soothing Ice Plant and detoxifying Lemon Myrtle extracts, this cleanser is densely filled with micro capsules that burst upon contact with water to gently cleanse, exfoliate, and detoxify skin. The Contour Cleanser helps to promote blood circulation and reduces bloating and swelling for a defined, enviably slim face shape.

Now, while I can't attest to the contouring and slimming promises of the Contour Cleanser, what I can say though is that this cleanser smells sooo good. It smells fresh, clean, and this is a scent that I actually look forward to at the end of the day.

The plastic packaging is a little opaque and I love that you can actually tell how much product you've got inside the bottle. Its texture feels a little clay-ish but once in contact with water, I had no problem lathering it over my cheeks and forehead. I also noticed there were these little beads or microcapsules for exfoliation which I found extremely gentle on my skin and great for everyday use.

Overall, I love this cleanser. I love the smell and I love how my skin feels after every use... it's like I feel that all the gunk and oil is gone, but it didn't leave my skin feeling dry nor itchy. I also noticed that this cleanser has a cooling effect, and it just leaves my skin feeling refreshed before I go to bed.

Althea Prime Water Review Bare Essentials

The Primer Water (200ml)

Both a hydrating toner and a primer in one, the Primer Water contains patented dewdrop technology (Macro Fluidic Dispersion technology) that gently fills the gaps between pores and allows hydration to penetrate deep within the layers of the skin. Made with Snow Lotus extracts, this skincare heavy hitter has an incredibly smooth and silky texture that enhances the skin’s natural glow, leaving you with the perfect canvas.

Althea Bare Essentials The Primer Water Review
I'm a little on the fence about this product. You see, I'm very used to applying toners on my skin using a cotton ball or cotton pad... and this isn't the same case for The Primer Water. If you've already watched some K-dramas, you're probably familiar about how Koreans do their skincare. There's always scenes about how they're putting moisturizers or serums on their hands and then just tapping it all over their face and I feel like that's also the best way to use this product.

It's also a two-in-one product acting as a toner and a primer and the texture is something I'm not very fond of. My toners usually dry up after a few minutes and my primers are silicon-based which leaves my skin feeling silky smooth. Meanwhile, this product leaves my skin feeling very moisturized and plumpy, so I'm quite not sure whether I should use this under makeup or just plain skincare. This very much feels like a serum than a toner.

Still, it does leave my skin looking plumpy, healthy, and has a natural glow. I see this product working wonders on dry skin.

Althea Fixer Cream Review Bare Essentials

The Fixer Cream (50g)
Price: Php 640.00

This non-oily, quick-absorbing formula harnesses the power of Trehalose, an ingredient found in the cactus plant that prevents its  moisture loss, to provide the skin with 24-hour hydration. This ultra-nourishing wonder cream is also rich in antioxidants derived from Camellia Sinensis (green tea) seed oil, and helps to promote collagen regeneration using Baobab Tree extracts. Upon  application, your skin is left looking great and feeling bouncy to the touch.

Althea Bare Essentials The Fixer Cream Review

This is probably one of the best moisturizers I've ever used. I love the smell, the texture, the lightweight feeling, and most importantly, the skin care benefits it provides. If you've been a reader of my blog for quite some time, you probably know how much I complain about my dry under-eyes. And although this moisturizer is targeted for the whole face, I find that it works wonders on my under-eyes area. The Fixer Cream contains ingredients that are rich in anti-oxidants and helps collagen regeneration and it's probably why I'm no longer waking up to cracked and dry under-eyes.

I no longer wake up to a greasy and oily T-zone with matching cracked under eyes all thanks to The Fixer Cream. This is something you've got to try!

I've also got a little confession to make...

I've got some bacne or back-acne issues right now. It started when summer kicked in and I've already tried a bunch of bacne sprays, papaya soaps, kojik soaps, the anti-bacterial variant ones, but nothing seemed to be working. At first, it didn't really bother me because I knew this would go away once the rainy and colder season starts... I knew it was all because of the summer heat... but then my husband noticed it and I was very, very embarrassed. I do have some freckles at my back (it runs in the blood) but bacne wasn't part of it.

I remembered that the Contour Cleanser had a little clay-ish texture and it works amazing on bumpy skin, so I tried using it on my back. True enough, after three days, the bumps started to deflate and from about 15 bumps, it decreased to about 4 or 5. I then incorporated the whole Bare Essentials line and after two weeks, my bacne is now all under control. Some days, I only have about one or two bumps and my husband also noticed the quick improvement.

Right now, I'm just waiting for summer to end while loving the freshness and the skincare benefits that the Althea Bare Essentials line brought me. I feel a repurchase coming soon! You can get your own Bare Essentials here too.

If you've got some bacne-stories and solutions, I would love to hear them! I also have some samples of the whole Bare Essentials line. Would you like to try it? Should I put it up for a giveaway too?
