Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer Review + Coverage Test for Acne

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer Review Maj Valencia Makeup in Manila

Before I get into my review of this concealer, can you believe that I've been struggling with acne for 10 years now!?

I first had my major acne breakout when I was 16 and off to college... and hey, 10 years later, I'm still struggling with acne and blemishes. I'd like to greet my pimples and blemishes a not-so-Happy-Anniversary! Lol.

I do have a dermatologist and I am getting treatments et cetera. But I recently had an acne breakout when I took biotin capsules. The photo at the bottom is the damage done to my skin.

It's a full-coverage, vegan, and blendable concealer that instantly brightens, and shapes skin. It provides a flawless matte finish that won’t flake or crease, even if you have dry skin, fine lines, or pore problems and no setting powder necessary.

I think it's great that this brand has gone cruelty free.

This has got to be the biggest doe foot applicator that I've seen in my life.

Que horror what biotin capsules did to my face!

Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer Review
Obviously, this concealer just beat all my concealers whether it's for the eye bags or for blemishes. Can you just see how it was able to cover almost everything with only one layer? I repeat, only one layer of this concealer. Ugh! This is definitely how high end brands should be. Some products are just worth the splurge!

Packaging looks high-end as expected. The tube comes with a lot of product and at the same time, has a huge doe-foot applicator that it's kind of crazy. At first I didn't really know how I should use it. Like, do I directly apply this under my eyes or do I just dot this over my blemishes? It's something you have to play around with. You just have to estimate how much product you actually need.

Product-wise, the Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer has a very subtle smell. It's barely noticeable upon application. The concealer applies smoothly whether I'm using my fingers or my brushes, but honestly, I think it works better when I use my fingers for blending.

It can offer full coverage with just one layer and you can still layer it up as I find the formula buildable. Based on my before and after photo above, I was able to cover my dark under-eye circles within minutes because of this contour concealer. It almost covered all my blemishes and scars too. It feels very light on my skin and it also has a matte finish. Sometimes I top it off with powder, and sometimes I don't as I noticed that it also has a bit of oil control.

Another amazing thing about this concealer is that it has never creased under my eyes. I wouldn't say that it's moisturizing, but it's definitely not drying at all. It's amazingly good! I've worn this for more than 8 hours and it did not crease at all. It also kept my under eyes looking fresh even though I've been sitting in front of the computer the whole day.

Last but not the least, I noticed that it can actually cover pores. Now, this is a two-way street for me because on one end, it can make my face look flawless for a number of hours. But on the other end, I notice that I do get a zit (seriously, just one) the following day. I'm not sure if this is because I didn't use a primer prior to applying this concealer or whatever the reason is. It really doesn't feel heavy, so I'm doubting that it clogs my pores, but still, I think it's better to use a primer before applying this concealer just to be safe. Lol.

Overall thoughts? As the photo suggests, the Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer gives off amazing full coverage. It's buildable, light on skin, long-lasting, covers your under eyes and blemishes, and lastly, it has a matte finish which looks natural on skin. I understand why this concealer is also called a contour concealer. It just feels super light that you can actually contour with this product and it would stay the whole day without need for retouch. Super worth the hype and worth the price!

As I said before, some products are worth the splurge. And as someone who's acne-prone and has a lot of blemishes, this is definitely a concealer to invest in!
